Sigma DP1 – Ideal point & shoot
Well. This is not about Pentax nor even Samsung but the news are very interesting too. Sigma (hey, they make K mount lenses too) showed prototype of APS-C compact digicam at Photokina. The thing is amazing with it’s 1.7 crop-factor Foveon X3 3 layer sensor. 14 Megapixels interpolated or about 4.7 Mpix with exceptional sharpness and color rendition – the same sensor as in SD14 DSLR. The eye of the thing is very compact (just like pancake) 16,6mm (28mm in full-frame terms) F4 not interchangeable prime. DP1 features RAW (XF3), full manual controls, pop-up flash (but no hot-shoe) and 2.5″ LCD screen. Stop. I can see little blisters on the top of the camera and a movie camera icon on the knob. Yes – it has video mode 640×480 @ 30 FPS with sound!
Everything has a price. And Sigma DP1 would be a killer cam if it will costs around $600 but the real life price seems to be close to $1000. If it will… DP1 is an early prototype now and it will take a long long time before thing hit the shelves.
