Pentax K20D and K200D are official
Pentax Imaging Co. have officially announced two new DSLRs: 14.6 megapixel CMOS Pentax K20D and 10.2 megapixel CCD Pentax K200D.

While Pentax K20D appeared to be quite disappointing with its old autofocus and metering systems, could be better LCD and 12-bit RAWs, Pentax K200D is the revolution in this generation of k-mount DSLR cameras. Pentax took a smart move by pushing K10D technologies such as all-weather sealing and battery grip to the entry-level segment.

I don’t find the old autofocus disappointing with it’s software fine-tuned, it should be quite improved from the K10D. Furthermore it’s 12-bit RAWs have been processed at 22-bit, which could be better than all 14-bit processing and storage. But that’s all about mathematics. Quess we’ll just have to wait for the final output and the pricing.

My K10d already has hot pixels after only a few months’ of use, and iso1600 is really disappointing– an ugly vertical stripe pattern in the shadows. I hear the k200d has the same sensor as the k10d. I’m really looking forward to seeing samples from the k20d’s new sensor.

I’m not in the market for a new body having just purchased a K10D at the beginning of this year but the K20D looks to be an excellent upgrade. I like the new CMOS sensor in lieu of the Sony CCD for better resolution.
