K10D show

Pentax K10D high ISO posters at the show in OsakaK10D Show was held in Osaka, Japan this Sunday (automatically translated version). Company exhibited new DA* high-end zooms, 70mm Limited “pancake” prime and other lenses as well as Pentax K10D DSLR camera. Visitors were able to try out K10Ds with DA 70mm lens but were not allowed to take back the pictures. Some photos made with K10D at hight ISO sensitivity settings were printed out on the large posters to demonstrate camera’s high ISO performance and advantages of 22 bit image processing. Pentax representative Izumi Taniguchi have confirmed delivery delay of the first K10Ds due to inadequate stock level.

PDML user Ken Takeshita made a thorough report from the show:

Pentax are not in a position to confirm or deny if the new SSM lenses would have a dual AF system (AF screw drive coupling).

There were two samples in ISO 1000 and 1600. It said in the samples that those are not based on the latest firmware. A poster compared the ISO 1600 samples with his DS example and thought the K10D sample was better (note: it would be very subjective, I suppose). But all in all, the high ISO samples satisfied most visitors and many apparently decided to buy K10Ds.

Pentax are also demonstrating the comparison with an unnamed (poster chose not to mention it in that particular forum) competition’s 10mp cameras and the report said the gradation and the shadow detail was overwhelming better for K10D.

Burst rate is 3.5fps, not 3.0.

Gradation/shadow detail, according to posters, are visibly excellent for K10D.
