Is 645D doomed?
Thanks to Don Douglas, who has pointed to an article from the U.K. photomagazine Amateur Photographer where the future of Pentax digital medium format camera is questioned:
Hiroshi Onoda, European general manager for Imaging Systems, told AP’s technical editor Angela Nicholson: ‘The medium format digital SLR is no longer a priority for Pentax.’
Some people on various Pentax forums and communities were in a hurry to declare the death of 645D project. But the phrase “no longer a priority” doesn’t mean cancellation, or does it?

One question. So Pentax confirmed that it would announce some surprising products including GN 54 Strobe, but it is still a rumour that its announcement includes a range of new DSLRs. Or is a whole thing a rumour?

Nope. The whole thing is not confirmed yet. So it remains rumor, just not confirmed.

We have new products in the market, we can image now, the market, for the next 4 years (especially of the 35 mm digital cameras). The project 645d with 31.6mp is interesting for the market now,not in 2009.
Is it necessary to be a very cheap camera? 30% 35% less of the direct competitors could be enough?Yes, Kodak also will be more available to supply its technology.
How the Pentax clients will feel save with this hesitancy? The usual esitancy of the top managers from new generation. When it will be too late they will understand it was a good project and they loose a portion of the market. Then…….. They will invest much much more to recover it.
Pentax must show the final product of 645 digital in Pma 2008 in Tokyo and commercialize it not late of the month of may 2008 or goodbye
