  1. Just want to start a dialogue to get your impressions of what a K?D might be like when it comes out. This would be an up scale DSLR and not an entree level camera. It will happen. This we know. But I would love to see who comes closest to the reality when it does happen.

  2. It should be build on the new sensor to be really up scale. Not obligatory bigger in terms of crop factor or megapixel count but more faster (5fps at least), with a wider dynamic range, better high ISO performance. Where will Pentax find it this year?

i dunno i want a camera built on the K10d but all the glitches flattened out and maybe a more effective dust and is system

  4. 5fps or more, ISO 3200, better noise reduction, ability to use other batteries in the grip (or size comparable to the EOS1 D and no grip needed)...sharper photos out of the camera....(I am so sick of the Nikon/Canon thing and I hope Pentax sticks it to 'em!

    must have:
    - dedicated AF assist lamp
    - better jpeg processing
    - LCD removable cover
    - Mirror-lockup as custom function
    - % Battery status

  6. - dedicated AF assist lamp

I think it's redundant since the strobo light is better AF assistant.

I don't think so... AF assist lamp is good cause I hate built-in flash...

I agree with kuusamo (except for better jpeg processing hummm don't really care !)

    So for me :

    - Zooming in picture for the wb adjust.
    - NO BUILT-IN FLASH
    - 100 % viewfinder (Or in my dream 105 %... )
    - Circular viewfinder instead of rectangular with eye cap
    - built-in viewfinder curtain (like my D1)
    - Accurate metering (Cause of inconsistent expose + sometime preserve to much high light)
    - PC Sync !!!
    - Harder plastic in hot-shoe !!!
    - reduced number of buttons !

Heuuu integrated flash meter !!! :)

Pentax please call me !!! I have a lot of idea !!! ;)

  8. - NO BUILT-IN FLASH

Well your dream probably will come true soon, Tracnac. Either in K1D top-level DSLR or in the entry-level cheaper than K100D Super DSLR. AF-200FG can't be announced just by chance.

We'd like in K1D full frame 36x24mm sensor

They don't have too much lens for full frame...

  11. all i want is better AF and noise. let pentax come with the rest of the inginuity

  12. AF WILL BE better with SDM lenses, and the noise (as well as dynamic range) mostly depends on sensor. I doubt that new Sony's sensors will be any better.

12Mp fullframe like in Nikon D3 would be nice. Any chance?

  14. Around the turn of the century they announced a full-frame camera based on their high-end film body. http://www.dpreview.com/news/0009/00091402pentaxdigitalslr.asp
That, with 12 megapixels, would be nice.

  15. I hope not with that $7K price tag!!!!!

  16. You will never see 'full frame' from pentax, not when they have abandoned all the FA lenses and are in the process of introducing the DA* SDM's.
If it won't work with a DA* lens they aren't going to make it, but then there is the 645 digital....

Pentax will surely not leave the new brand X 20mp
unanswered, but sensor density beyond 20 mp seems
pointless (and probably beyond the 10 mp of the K10) that will be mostly photographing the optical limits of your lens.

  17. Agree with rvannatta. That MZ-S based FF digital was designed years before first DA lens.

And I wonder if more than one working sample of MZ-D was made.

  18. The opportunities for genuine improvements that I see include the following:

    1) increases in the ISO sensitivity range
    2) any opportunity to get the auto focus to work
    in lower light ranges.
    3) find a way to deal with excessively contrasty
scenes ( i.e. bright sunlight and deep shadows).

It's a bit subjective on my part but I get the feeling that the digital perhaps deals with extremes in contrast less well than film.

It's not too hard to take a zebra photo with my digital cameras where the sunlit areas are burned out and white, and the shadows are black and lack detail as well and if the photo is taken where
the sun is spilling through holes in foilage, the photo ends up looking like a macro shot of the back of a barred rock chicken.

  19. The third goal could be achieved by writing true 16bit output into the RAW files. But it's useless (or even worse) with the current K10D sensor. New generation of Sony's sensors (like that in the Nikon D300) can return 14 bits of useful data per pixel. Perhaps the next Sony sensor (or one from another manufacturer) will allow to work with the true 16bit RAWs. It should improve dynamic range significantly.

  20. That would suit me just fine. There is plenty of financial incentive around to make a better sensor, and the computer bandwidth to handle the resulting output is 'getting there'.

I'm astonished at the improvement in upload speeds from by 'istD to the K10D.
