As disappointing as the Jpeg quality is, there's a really simple way to get around it ...

Shoot in RAW. The K10d has some serious skills with RAW quality. If you don't mind the larger file size, and subsequent hit it takes on your memory card, it's really the way to go.

I think there's also an option that allows you to control how the camera handles the RAW button. One option switches to RAW for a single shot; the other locks the camera in RAW mode until the button is pressed a 2nd time.

The only serious issue I've run in to with my K10d, since the update, is that the internal flash died on me. Although that should be covered by the warranty. Any news if this issue has been addressed on newer versions of the camera?

Has anyone here had any experience with Pentax's repair/warranty service? Are they fairly quick and reliable?

    Thanks,
    Adam.

Obviously, it's a hardware issue. Newer cameras should be more reliable.

Many people are satisfied with the Pentax's service. Usually it takes a month.

You can try to talk to your dealer to get a spare camera for that time.

    To the extent it may interest the esteemed members of this forum....;
Due to certain medical problems, it’s now rapidly coming up to two years, since my wife, my two daughters and myself, relocated from our home on Norway, to the Philippines, -more exact; some 20 kilometers SW of Cebu City.
As of yet, I have no reason to regret the moving as my health problems is, by now, virtually non- existent. Probably due to the nice and warm climate, here in this part of the world…
Anyway, the issue is Pentax, dslr. As it happens, I am definetily an avid Pentax user, and have been so, since the late ‘70’s. Since then, I have had five Pentax slr’s, -six, if I count the MV I bought for my x-wife. And although I bought a Nikon DA200, about six weeks ago, I had the good fortune to have that stolen, -which is just as good; it just didn’t work for me…
Like my late father once stated; “If you have luck, you don’t need brain!”
The reason why I bought this Nikon was that the K10 D is not available, as of yet, in this area.
A bit of a contradiction, in view of the fact that this particular camera is manufactured and/or assembled in MEZ 1, or Mactan Economic Zone # 1, about 50 kilometres from where I’m sitting, as I write this….
The fact of the matter is; with my brother in law, I drove to the Pentax plant #1, two days ago, to request some info on this specific camera! And while I was unable to do any purchases, I was able to persuade the nice ladies of the reception, to give us a tour of the assembly area...
    Very, very interesting, believe me!
As I said, they where unable to supply me with a camera, but what they did was the following; they showed me how to get a Pentax camera re-furbished at the factory; much like Clarence Leonidas Fender did it, at the Fender factory, in Anaheim, Los Angeles, in the years before 1965.
In other words, what I can do, would be to purchase a Pentax K 10d, vià a relative at Amazon.com, have it shipped to the Philippines, as such. And if there’s any snags, I’ll just go the Pentax, plant # 1, and have it refurbished…..
Not many of you can beat a deal like that, -or what?

    Yes, I think so, too...
I have recently started "negotiations" with the aim to purchase a K10D from Norway. The point is; in Norway, the laws concerning consumers rights, clearly states, the guarantee time is two years, and a reclamation time of five years, for particularly expensive items. And while this camera is pretty expensive in there, I get buy it without the Norwegian VAT of 25%. Problem might be to find a dealer who are willing to take the extra fuzz and "red tape"....!
