The tube and the converter have very different effects and usage.
Tube is making the lens to focus closer while the TC makes the lens appear as 180mm and increases the working distance.
It may even be interesting to combine both.

Hi all
I'm a new member and this my first post.
I've just purchased a Tamron SP90 F2:5 macro plus the Tamron extension tube with Pentax adapter. My question is would i be better off getting a 2 x converter instead of using the extension tube. As i've found that if i wish to use the lens normally instead of 1:1 macro i have to remove the tube, so i was wandering that if i used A 2 x converter then it would always be on the lens and ready to use for other shots when needed. I do hope this makes sense as i've only just started with macro.

Thanks Richard

Meuh,
I've checked the photos (at Flickr) you took with the 18-250mm DA Lens and they really look sharp.
Now ... I know why a good percentage of my shots ended up in Photoshop for immense retouching! I have been using a Sigma 28-200mm all along but I am realizing that the K10D can be as good as the lens it is matched with ... or perhaps the photographer (me!).
Thanks for the comments and link.
Cheers!

Meuh,
I am waiting for that new 18-250mm which should be in very soon; ordered it about 3 weeks ago.
Do you think this lens has acceptable optics/rendering? Just wondering if I did make agood choice.
Thanks,

Staff on Pentax booth say me the focus ring was not usable. So not a working sample.
The same day I was able to test the new DA 18-250mm, see http://www.flickr.com/photos/meuh/sets/72157602647236133/detail/

Tokina announced AT-X PRO DX 35mm F2.8 macro prime lens. It looks different than Pentax 35mm F2.8 Macro Limited, but the specs and announcement date (jast a week after Pentax) says that this lens is one more child of Pentax and Tokina cooperation in lens development. Tokina's version of 50-135mm is also looks different but the both shares the same optical design.

Pentax DA 35mm Limited will feature better coating (SMC) and will be more compact. Now I have understood why John Carlson called DA 35mm F2.8 Limited the "pancake".

I have the Sigma 70mm EX DG Macro lens I love it...my Tamron 90mm macro is sharp... the Sigma is like a razor. The 70mm and my Sigma 17-70mm lens will be my 2 main lenses: the 17-70mm for my walkabout lens and the Sigma 70mm Macro for portraits and close-up work.
I am glad to see this forum evolving...good stuff!

Recently announced for Pentax K-mount Sigma 70mm F2.8 DG EX macro lens was reviewed by ePHOTOzine. "The lens proved to be sharp right from the outset at f/2.8 and stays that way right through to between f/11 and f/16 where reciprocity starts to come in and degrade the image slightly... ...Distortion, measured with the Imatest distortion module is negligible with a reading of 0.17% pincushion, which is visually undetectable. Chromatic aberrations are so well controlled..."

Also take a look at this gallery:
http://www.dpexpert.com.au/gallery/PentaxK10d

All the photos were taken with the Pentax K10D + Sigma 70mm F2.8 DG EX macro. Author complains that the lens is a bit on a slow side. "Focus can go a bit woolly on low contrast subjects."
