Apple update 10.5.3 with camera raw update (includes Pentax K20D) and still no support for the GX10!

I've been getting ready to buy a GX20 but I think I might make it a K20D for convenience sake.

Pity...I much prefer the grip on the Samsungs.

Hey all, can anyone lend a hand as to how i properly update to version 1.3..being new to the digital cameras all i keep reading is to load it to root directory?????? but i must not be doing it properly because everytime i hold the menu button while switching on it just say ver 1.00 then turns on???? if anyone can help it'd be awesome..Cheers

I have just updated to version 1.3 firmware and it seems to have fixed my issue. It was getting really annoying as I do a lot of low light handheld work, and although I could reactivate it using my workaround, it continually kept deactivating itself. Anyway hope it stays good now.

Yes I am using the kit lens. It is working again but still seems buggy. If it's not coming on I've found if I hit the info button, the symbol is crossed out, but switching the lever off then on again fixes it while still looking at the info screen.

Hi antman

I've been using the Samsung since Feb and have had no trouble at all with OPS.

Are you using the kit lens? And have you checked that the OPS function isn't set to manual?

Has anyone had the OPS function misbehave? First it didn't always seem to activate in the viewfinder, and just now it won't come on at all!

I installed it. And everythings okay...for now :P

And it was exactly the same file size but without the corrupt header which was stopping it from being extracted.
So I'm thinking it wasn't some random file, especially since it actually applied all the updated features.

I've heard about Samsung firmware download problems yesterday. It seems that firmaware file is corrupted. I'm glad you find the working file but it's quite unsafe to use unauthorized files that could crash your camera to death.

I have great news! I finally found a working firmware file! :D

I can't believe I didn't notice it before. But when you search Google

with the name of the file, the second result is a page with all the firmware that Samsung has released for the GX-10.

I think I may have searched for FWDC173B.zip before, and that result wasn't there.

I hope this is helpful to anyone out there, this way you can have the latest firmware which is version 1.21

Also can user 1r2R1 please tell me if their GX10 is still experiencing freezes? Mine is having the same problem.

Seems to be when I'm in Aperture Priority mode and using anti shake. That's why I've been trying to get hold of the firmware.

I feel stupid now for buying the Samsung, they might have superior service/support in Korea but it's sorely lacking for the international customers. Urgh, that's another thing, I tried to get the file from the Korean site, with the help of a friend.

You need a Korean National ID to register, then send in a photo of your camera's serial number.....unfortunately it automatically detected that it was a serial for a product sold overseas. So no luck there. What are they doing, trying to punish/torture us? :(

Can anyone on here please, please send me the firmware for the GX10?
The current files on the global website are corrupt and I can't unzip them.

And there doesn't seem to be any way to email Samsung, except a weird form to submit a question to the FAQ, which doesn't submit.

Yes, my fault. Thanks for correction, keithw, Ojay.

Six websites in my RSS reader have reported it yesterday. This has made me to believe that the month-old firmware update was v.1.11 and that it was actually something new in v.1.20.

As for Pentax Remote Assistant, I doubt it will work with GX10 (or any other Samsung) without serious hacking. For some reason Samsung had to choose a different bundled software vendor and left without any remote control software.

Version 1.20 was realeased around the same time as the Pentax version (I checked when I heard about the Pentax version and was suprised to find Samsung had posted theirs already) - DPreview have only just reported it now.

It shows as version 1.20 in camera.

I'd really like to know about Remote Assistant compatibility.

Sorry Vitali, that is old news.

I think the confusion might be because Samsung originally referred to their upgraded firmware as version 1.11; whereas they now refer to it as ver 1.20 (although on the doc with the menu screenshots they do still refer to it as 1.11).

Also I believe that it is only the equivalent of Pentax 1.10 as there is no mention of the enhancements in Pentax versions 1.11 and 1.20.

I guess it's one of the reasons why the Samsung costs less than the Pentax - lack of proper support.

Firmware v.1.20 is out. What's new list is the same as Pentax K10D v.1.20:

1) A built-in flash function in wireless mode has been added.
2) A function that shifts the AF point from “SELECT” to the centre has been added.
3) A function for changing the ISO setting using the e-dials in Tv/Av modes has been added.
4) A function that can change the ISO sensitivity displayed on the upper LCD panel by using the front e-dial has been added.
5) The green button function available in M mode has been added to Tv/Av modes.
6) A function for switching the Av/Tv settings between the front and rear e-dials has been added.
7) A function that sets the strobe light compensation to its default value, using the green button,
has been added.
8) A function that displays the memory size when a memory card is formatted has been added.

So at the beginning of April Samsung support says:

"THe battery grip for the Pentax K10D is compatible with the GX-10"

and within the month Samsung releases their slightly different looking grip for the GX-10.

Makes you wonder whether there is any point in asking them a question. As already stated the quality of support is the real difference between the K10D and the GX-10.

No response from the parts department but I contacted Samsung via their website and they said:

"Thank you for your e-mail.

THe battery grip for the Pentax K10D is compatible with the GX-10. Also the frimware upgrade for the GX-10 is now available from the Samsung website at the following adress: www.samsuncamera.com."

So the good news is that the battery grip is supposed to be compatible and the bad news is that Samsung cannot spell their website correctly!

this grip doesn't fit to the gx10 ! A french guy bought it and he has been forced to adjust with a "knife" to plug it. I can send you the pictures if you want.

Hmm... that's weird and quite disappointing.
Does the grip's buttons work after "adjustment"?
