My Ds is about 85000exp old. It has become shiny from holding it! The rubber on the handle is falling of and can not be reglued because it is now 2mm bigger than in its origynalstate :D (deformed)
I used it for a lot of work, and it is the most relyable piece of equipment I ever met! I broke it apart when it was 2weeks old, take it to repairs. They ordered the parts I needed, and told me to use it because it is fine inside. It took 2mounths to get all parts. So I used it for about 10000expos with a broken upper shell, a glued flash and a damaged mirror. They repared it all, and it still runs great. No change in shutter, it is still factory origyinal.

I have had the pentax K110d – K100d -K10d and now I have the K20d. I have shot over 150.000 on the first cameras and I have never had shutter issues or any other issue with these camers. I do not think you will have issues with the shutter even when the say 100.000 shots have been tested. The K110d had over 80.000 shots the first winter I had it. I am sure they will go over 200.000 without any problem.

I’ve been using a Pentax *istDS for nearly five years. It’s seen some 23,405 frames taken in that time. No hint of mechanical problem.

d worley,
No, you shouldn’t. You can get more than 100k exposures without failures. And may be even more.
